Stump grinding usually occurs after a tree is removed for appearance reasons. A variety of specially designed machines are used to grind the stump between 6”-8” below ground level, where accessible, larger stump grinders can be used to go as deep as 18”-24” below grade. Stump chips are generally left on site and can be used as ground cover or mulch for planter beds.
